Wires with Wood
James Kosmicki
Jimothy Kosmicki, Human Being Extraordinaire
Jim K., as his friends call him when they are being nice, lives in a remote village in the mountains of Colorado within a hobbit hole. He wasn't always so crazy, but through the years of solitude in an area known for UFO sightings, and perhaps partaking in too much Canadian liquor, he began to lose the bit of the small mind that he still possessed. In order to pull himself back and grasp a slight grip on reality, he needed a hobby. One day as he was walking through the woods, he stumbled on some old rusty barb wire and barn wood. After a tetanus shot and some bandaids, he had the ingenious idea to use this rusty old wire to create the magnificent art you see before you.

Please buy some art to keep Jim K. on this side of sanity and help him pay for the continuous demand for bandages.

Sincerely,
Tyler & Kiki, Johnson

the Barn Wood's Story

The Rusty Barb Wire's Story

I've acquired the barn wood from a corral on an old homestead up a feeder stream above the Arkansas River, which is located downstream from the National Historic townsite of Salida, Colorado. This area was know for cattle rustling and with a remote hideout the cattle rustlers had a view of the whole valley and could easily avoid detection. The wood from this sites is the beginning of my creations.

The second step in my recycling process is to take a walk up South Crestone Creek.
With my trusty bolt cutters, I'll look for abandoned barb wire. Once back home,
I make my way to the Bird House (as I call it). This where ideas start to percolate.
Once inside, you never know what creation comes out.
All frames are one of a kind with its own unique barn wood character. These pieces
can be hung indoor or outdoors. Perfect for your backyard, front porch or on display
in any room in the house. After all, they have been weathering outside for a hundred
years and can handle the elements.

Because of a thinning operation for fire mitigation in the Crestone area, this created an opportunity for reclaimed beautiful carved cedar sculptures. Used for fence posts in the surrounding ranching community for over one hundred years, the tree's character provides a durable existence to withstand the elements and will continue to shine for many years to come.
